Fat loss .vs. Weight loss. What's the difference?

When you start out on your fitness journey you may find yourself obsessed with the number on the scale. This is a great starting point for measuring your progress but it is not 100% reliable. Our body weight fluctuates throughout the day. For example, if you weigh yourself in the morning and then again in the evening chances are you will have two different numbers. Simply put our bodies adjust to our daily needs and therefore the scale fluctuates as well. Not to mention what we eat during the day gets digested and moves through our intestines as well.

Weight loss is referring to your overall weight. When you lose weight chances are you have also lost muscle mass. Whether this is from lack of use or intentional lose it will still be counted. In general, muscle weighs more than fat as protein is what muscle is composed of. Muscles are taught in order to move the body as well as being build upon for things such as weight lifting and other activities that strain the muscles.

Fat loss refers to the fat that has built up around your body. Everyone carries fat differently and the reason fat is stored on the body is an excess of calories that are saved to be burned later and provide quick energy when needed. It should be noted that it is not possible to burn fat in specific areas. The body burns fat as it sees fit and where the fat burns depend on the body itself. You can increase the muscle mass of that area but can not burn the specific fat that you want. Therefore burning fat, in general, should yield the results that you want.

Basically you decide whether or not you want more or less muscle mass and more or less fat. The way to go about losing both is with good dieting and working out on a regular basis. Consistently making healthy choices will be beneficial and you will be able to see the results you want. Don't be discouraged if you do not notice it right away! The body is working hard to get rid of the unwanted and it does need time in order to do this. Keep going and you will get there! I hope you found this informative and helpful. See you next time!
